As an employee of Damen Jackson, specializing in branding and packaging design, I’m always drawn to standout labels. While shopping at Jewel-Osco in Oak Lawn, Illinois, I spotted a bottle of Black Girl Magic Riesling by the McBride Sisters Wine Company. The minimalist, bold design and powerful name immediately caught my attention. Did I mention that I also love Riesling Wine?
Robin and Andréa McBride’s story is one of destiny and resilience. Raised worlds apart—Robin in California and Andréa in New Zealand—they met in 1999, discovering not just their sisterhood but a shared passion for wine and culture. From humble beginnings importing wine, they’ve grown their business into the largest Black-owned and women-founded wine company in the U.S.
The Black Girl Magic collection is a celebration of culture, empowerment, and excellence. Its striking design perfectly reflects the sisters’ mission to inspire and uplift. Their innovation doesn’t stop there—they also launched SHE CAN Wines, a line of premium canned wines and spritzers designed to make high-quality wine accessible and approachable.
The McBride Sisters continue to break barriers and redefine the wine industry while championing diversity and inclusion. As we celebrate Black History Month, their journey reminds us of the power of perseverance, purpose, and representation.
Next time you’re browsing for wine, consider picking up a bottle of Black Girl Magic—it’s more than just a wine; it’s a statement of progress, empowerment, and excellence. Cheers to Robin and Andréa McBride for making history, one bottle at a time!
